Commonly known as the Queen Anthurium, she is one of the most majestic foliage houseplants, native to the rainforests of Colombia. She has long, elegant, velvety leaves that can reach over a metre in length, deep green with striking pale veins that give it an almost regal appearance. Though undeniably show-stopping, she is also a bit of a diva thriving only when given consistent warmth, humidity, and gentle care.
☀️ - Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid any direct sun, which can scorch the delicate, velvety leaves. Too little light will slow growth and reduce new leaf production.
💧 - Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2-3cm of the mix feels dry. Use filtered or rainwater if possible, as this plant is sensitive to mineral build-up. Reduce watering slightly in winter, but never allow the roots to fully dry out.
🌡️ - Requires warm, stable temperatures between 18-28°C and high humidity (above 60%). Avoid draughts and sudden temperature drops. This species will suffer in dry air, use a humidifier or position it among other tropical plants for better moisture levels.
🪴 - Use a chunky, well-aerated, peat-free mix such as orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir to allow airflow around the roots. Repot every 1-2 years in spring, increasing only one pot size at a time. Water a day before repotting and handle gently to avoid damaging the fine roots. Stake taller leaves for support if necessary.
🐾 - Toxic to pets.
