Mimosa pudica, also known as the Sensitive Plant or Touch-Me-Not, is a playful and fascinating plant known for its unique ability to react to touch. Its delicate, fern-like leaves fold inward rapidly when touched or disturbed, a defence mechanism that adds an interactive element to a plant family. It features soft green foliage and produces small, fluffy pink-purple flower puffs during the growing season. Adorable!
Touch sparingly: Mimosa pudica's characteristic leaf movement uses energy, so avoid excessive touching. It can start to shed leaves if bothered too much.
☀️ - Thrives in bright, indirect light. A few hours of gentle morning sun are beneficial, but avoid strong midday rays, which can scorch the leaves.
💧 - Water when the top few centimetres of soil feel dry. Keep the soil evenly moist during spring and summer, and reduce watering in winter, allowing the top third of the soil to dry out. Avoid waterlogging, as the roots are prone to rot.
🌡️ - Prefers warm conditions between 20°C to 26°C. Avoid draughts and temperatures below 15°C, as cold can cause leaf drop and stress.
🪴 - Repot yearly in spring if growth becomes crowded. Use a free-draining, peat-free compost with added perlite. It can be grown as a short-lived perennial but is often treated as an annual indoors.
🐾 - Not pet friendly.
Size: 5cm nursery pot
Please note: Your sensitive plant may arrive with folded leaves after transit. This is completely normal and it should reopen within a few hours to a couple of days once settled into a warm bright spot.
