Commonly known as Persian Shield, is a striking tropical plant admired for its shimmering, metallic purple foliage with deep green undertones. Its iridescent leaves bring bold colour and texture, making it a real statement piece in both indoor displays and summer planting schemes.
☀️- She thrives in bright, indirect light. Some gentle morning or late afternoon sun is ideal, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves. Lower light levels will cause the vibrant purple colouring to fade and growth may become leggy.
💧- Prefers consistently moist soil. Water when the top couple of inches of soil are dry, ensuring the compost does not dry out completely. Avoid overwatering or allowing the plant to sit in soggy soil, as this can lead to root rot.
🌡️- Ideal temperatures are 18-27°C. She enjoys warmth and higher humidity, so keep away from cold draughts. Temperatures below 15°C can cause damage and leaf drop.
🪴- Use a rich, well-draining compost. Repot when the roots begin to outgrow the pot, ideally during spring or early summer. Adding perlite or grit will help improve drainage.
✂️- Pinch back stems regularly to encourage a fuller, bushier shape. Remove any leggy or damaged growth to maintain appearance.
🐾- Not pet friendly.
