Dionaea Muscipula - Venus Fly Trap
☀️ - This is a sun loving plant and a south-facing bright sunlit window is ideal.
💧 - Place the nursery pot with the plant in a saucer with approximately 1cm rainwater. During the colder months, water only when the top layer is dry to touch, make sure water drains away completely and is just damp.
🌡️ - They can grow extremely well in conservatories and unheated greenhouses. Temperatures in their natural habitat frequently hit 30°C during summer and drop below 0°C in the winter.
🪴 - Loves damp, low-nutrient soil. A mix of fine milled bark, grit and perlite is preferred, or specialised carnivorous plant soil. Repot once the plant has outgrown its pot after the dormancy period, usually end of February/beginning of March

Venus Trap has been made forever famous by Charles Darwin who described it as “the most wonderful plant in the world”. We agree. Originated from Carolinas in the USA, It has long bright green stems that end in little toothed, jawlike traps and the leaves snap shut in less than half a second when a pesky little fly triggers its sensors. Mistaken for being high maintenance, Venus Fly Trap is actually among the easiest plants to care for. Particularly for plant parents that are very generous to water.
Old traps will go black and die back as new ones will come through, just cut the dead ones off. In winter you may find the traps go yellow. Just cut these back along with dead leaves.
