Platycerium Bifurcatum - Staghorn Fern
This staghorn fern is epiphytic (grows on trees), has long dark green leaves that change into antler-shape as the plant matures. These will eventually have a light fuzz grow on them which should not be removed. Perfect plant for a bathroom. The round, heart shaped shield leaves will turn brown eventually and should remain on the plant as this is a natural development.

Moderate light requirements, anywhere from bright, indirect sunlight to light shade.
Soil can dry out slightly between watering but due to the hard shield leaves covering the plant root ball, it is best to water from below rather directly onto the leaves.
Average household temperatures 16-24C, but no lower than 12C. Avoid cold draughts. These ferns prefer higher humidity levels and don't do well in dry air conditions. Do not place near radiators etc.
Just go slightly up in pot size when repotting and water a couple of days before. Make sure you have rich potting soil, don’t pot too deeply, and wait a few days before watering again.
Pet friendly. |
