Aeschynanthus 'Twister', commonly known as the Lipstick Plant, is a striking trailing tropical houseplant loved for its glossy, curled foliage and vibrant tubular flowers. Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, this unusual variety has tightly twisted deep green leaves that cascade beautifully from shelves or hanging pots. When mature, she produces bright red lipstick-like blooms that contrast beautifully against the dark foliage, making her a standout indoor plant.
☀️- She thrives in bright, indirect light. Some gentle morning or late afternoon sun is beneficial, but avoid prolonged direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves. Lower light levels may reduce flowering and cause leggy growth.
💧- Prefers lightly moist soil. Water when the top inch or two of soil feels dry, ensuring the compost does not dry out completely. Avoid soggy soil, as this can lead to root rot.
🌡️- Ideal temperatures are 18-27°C. She enjoys warmth and higher humidity, so keep away from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
🪴- Use a rich, well-draining compost with added bark or perlite for airflow. Repot only when rootbound, ideally during spring or early summer.
🌸- With the right conditions, she will produce clusters of bright red tubular flowers throughout the warmer months.
✂️- Trim back long stems if needed to encourage fuller growth and remove any damaged foliage to maintain appearance.
🐾- Pet friendly.
