Calathea Velvet Glory

Calathea ‘Velvet Glory’ is a decorative foliage plant grown for her richly coloured leaves and velvety appearance. Calatheas originate from the tropical forests of Central and South America, where they grow in warm, humid conditions beneath taller plants. Her striking foliage makes her a beautiful feature in a bright room away from direct sunlight.

☀️ Light
Give her bright, indirect light to maintain her foliage colour. Avoid direct sunshine, which can scorch her leaves.

💧 Watering
Keep the compost lightly moist, allowing the surface to begin drying before watering again. Don’t let her dry out completely or leave her sitting in water. Rainwater or filtered water can help prevent leaf-edge damage, particularly in hard-water areas.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
She prefers temperatures around 18-27°C and high humidity. Keep her away from cold draughts, radiators and sudden temperature changes.

🪴 Potting
Use a moisture-retentive but well-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes.

✂️ Pruning
Remove damaged or yellowing leaves close to the base using clean scissors.

🌿 Growing Tips
Wipe her leaves gently to remove dust and consider a humidifier if your home is dry.

🐾 Pet Friendly
Calatheas are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
