Chlorophytum comosum ‘Bonnie’ is a cheerful foliage plant with curly green-and-cream striped leaves that arch gracefully from the centre. Spider plants originate from tropical and southern Africa, where they grow in warm conditions. As she matures, she can produce long stems carrying small plantlets, which look lovely cascading from a hanging pot or shelf.

☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal for maintaining her leaf markings. She can tolerate lower light, but avoid strong direct sunshine, which can scorch the leaves.

💧 Watering
Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost feel dry. Allow excess water to drain away and avoid leaving her sitting in water. Water less frequently during winter.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Normal household temperatures of around 15-27°C suit her well. Average indoor humidity is usually fine, although she appreciates being kept away from cold draughts.

🪴 Potting
Use a well-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes. She can become slightly pot-bound without issue, so there’s no need to rush into repotting.

✂️ Pruning
Trim away brown leaf tips and remove old or damaged leaves with clean scissors. You can also cut off plantlets if you want to keep her shape compact.

🌿 Growing Tips
Her plantlets can be propagated in water or planted directly into moist compost once they have developed roots. Rotate her occasionally to encourage even growth.

🐾 Pet Friendly
Spider plants are generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, although chewing the leaves may cause mild stomach upset.
