Hoya carnosa 'Compacta Variegata'

Commonly known as the Variegated Hindu Rope Plant, is a striking trailing houseplant loved for its thick, twisted, rope-like leaves marbled with creamy whites and soft pink tones. A nostalgic “Wax plant”, it’s prized for its unusual sculptural form and its ability to produce clusters of delicate, porcelain-like fragrant flowers when mature.

☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal, with some gentle morning or evening sunshine being beneficial. Avoid strong midday sun, particularly through glass. Good light is important for maintaining her variegation and encouraging flowering.

💧 Watering
Allow the compost to dry out well between waterings. Her thick leaves hold moisture, so she is much happier being slightly too dry than overwatered. Water thoroughly once the compost has dried, then allow excess water to drain away. Water less during autumn and winter.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Keep her warm, ideally around 18-27°C. Average household humidity is fine, although she appreciates a little extra humidity. Avoid cold draughts and temperatures below around 12°C.

🪴 Potting
Use a very free-draining, chunky mix. A combination of peat-free compost or coco coir, orchid bark and perlite works well. Hoyas prefer being slightly root-bound, so don't rush to move her into a much larger pot.

✂️ Pruning
Trim back long or unwanted vines to maintain her shape, but try not to remove old flowering spurs, as these can produce flowers again. Healthy cuttings can be propagated.

🌿 Growing Tips
Hoya carnosa ‘Compacta Variegata’ can take her time to settle before flowering, so patience is definitely part of the deal. Give her plenty of bright light, avoid overwatering and let her vines trail naturally or gently train them around a support.

🐾 Pet Friendly
Hoya carnosa is considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
