Mammillaria polythele 'Hidalgensis' is a beautiful and unusual cactus native to Mexico, prized for its neat columnar shape and distinctive arrangement of tubercles that spiral around the stem.
Over time, she develops into an elegant upright cactus and, when mature, may reward you with vibrant pink flowers that form a delicate crown around the top of the stem. Despite her striking appearance, she is wonderfully low maintenance and perfectly suited to life on a sunny windowsill.
☀️- She thrives in bright light and enjoys several hours of direct sun each day. A sunny windowsill or bright conservatory will help maintain compact growth and encourage flowering.
💧- Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly during spring and summer, then reduce watering significantly in winter when growth slows or stops altogether. Avoid overwatering, as this can quickly lead to root rot.
🌡️- Ideal temperatures are 15-30°C. She prefers warm, dry conditions and should be protected from frost and cold damp environments.
🪴- Use a very free-draining cactus or succulent compost with added grit or sand. Repot only when necessary, ideally during spring.
🐾- Not pet friendly.
