Philodendron ‘Choco Red’ is an attractive foliage plant with rich, deep-toned leaves that can develop warm reddish or chocolate-brown hues as they mature. Her exact colouring can vary with age and growing conditions, giving her plenty of character as she grows. Philodendrons originate from tropical regions of Central and South America and the Caribbean. She prefers warmth, indirect light and a little time to settle into her surroundings.
☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light helps maintain healthy growth and good leaf colour. Avoid strong direct sunshine, which can scorch her foliage.
💧 Watering
Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost feel dry. Give her a thorough drink and allow excess water to drain away. Avoid keeping the roots constantly wet.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Around 18-27°C is ideal. She appreciates moderate to high humidity, although average household conditions are usually manageable. Keep her away from cold draughts.
🪴 Potting
Use a loose, well-draining mix, such as houseplant compost with added orchid bark and perlite. Choose a pot with drainage holes.
✂️ Pruning
Remove yellow or damaged leaves with clean scissors. Trim back untidy growth as needed.
🌿 Growing Tips
Wipe her leaves occasionally and feed lightly during spring and summer.
🐾 Not Pet Friendly
Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalates and are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten.
