Philodendron Scandens - Sweetheart Plant

Philodendron scandens is a classic trailing houseplant with soft, heart-shaped green leaves. She looks lovely cascading from a shelf or hanging planter, and her adaptable nature makes her a good choice for beginners. With the right care, her stems can grow long and leafy.

☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal, but she can tolerate lower light levels. Growth may become slower and more stretched in darker spots. Avoid harsh direct sunshine.

💧 Watering
Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost feel dry. Allow excess water to drain away and avoid leaving her sitting in water. Water less frequently during winter.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Around 18–27°C is ideal. She does well in average household humidity but appreciates a little extra moisture in the air.

🪴 Potting
Use a well-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes.

✂️ Pruning
Trim back long stems to maintain your preferred shape. Regular pinching of the growing tips can encourage a fuller plant. You can propagate healthy stem cuttings that include a node.

🌿 Growing Tips
Rotate her occasionally for even growth and wipe the leaves to remove dust. If the stems become sparse, try moving her to a brighter spot with indirect light.

🐾 Not Pet Friendly
Philodendrons contain insoluble calcium oxalates and are toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten.
