Pilosocereus pachycladus, commonly known as the Blue Columnar Cactus, is a striking cactus with tall powdery blue stems and a strong upright growth habit. Native to Brazil, this desert plant is admired for its cool silvery-blue colouring, golden spines, and clean architectural shape, making it a perfect statement plant for bright modern interiors.
As she matures, she develops thick column-like stems that slowly branch over time, creating an impressive sculptural silhouette. Given plenty of light, the blue tones become even more pronounced, especially on newer growth.
☀️- She thrives in bright light and enjoys a few hours of direct sun each day. A sunny windowsill or bright conservatory is ideal. Lower light levels may cause weak or stretched growth.
💧- Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Water sparingly, especially during winter, as overwatering can quickly lead to rot.
🌡️- Ideal temperatures are 18–30°C. She enjoys warm, dry conditions and should be protected from frost and prolonged cold.
🪴- Use a very free-draining cactus or succulent compost with added grit or sand for extra drainage. Repot only when necessary, ideally during spring.
🐾- Not pet friendly.
