Spathiphyllum ‘Chopin' - Peace Lily

Spathiphyllum ‘Chopin’ is a compact variety of peace lily with lush, deep green leaves and elegant white flowers that stand above the foliage. She’s a classic indoor plant for a reason, bringing plenty of greenery to the home without needing lots of direct sunlight. Originally from tropical regions of the Americas and Southeast Asia, peace lilies enjoy warm, humid conditions and can cope with lower light than many houseplants.

☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal, although she can tolerate lower light levels. Keep her away from strong direct sunshine, which can scorch her leaves. If she’s not flowering, moving her somewhere a little brighter can encourage more blooms.

💧 Watering
Keep the compost lightly moist, but avoid leaving her sitting in water. Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost feel dry, then allow excess water to drain away. Peace lilies are famous for their dramatic droop when thirsty, but it’s better not to let her reach this stage regularly. Reduce watering a little during autumn and winter.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
She likes warmth and humidity, ideally around 18-27°C. Average household humidity is usually fine, but she’ll appreciate some extra humidity if the air is particularly dry. Keep her away from cold draughts, air conditioning and radiators.

🪴 Potting
Use a good quality, free-draining houseplant compost. Adding some perlite or fine orchid bark can improve drainage. Make sure her pot has drainage holes and don't choose a pot that's much larger than her root ball.

✂️ Pruning
Remove yellowing or damaged leaves at the base with clean scissors. Once flowers have faded, cut the flower stalk down to the base to encourage the plant to put its energy into new growth.

🌿 Growing Tips
Peace lilies can be surprisingly expressive. If she suddenly droops, check the compost before panicking! She will often perk back up after a good drink. Keep her leaves free from dust and rotate the pot occasionally for even growth. Good indirect light will give you the best chance of regular flowering.

🐾 Not Pet Friendly
Spathiphyllum contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if eaten. Keep her away from cats, dogs and curious children.
