Strobilanthes Dyeriana 'Persian Shield Plant'

Strobilanthes dyeriana, commonly known as Persian Shield, is a striking foliage plant with elongated leaves in shimmering purple, silver and deep green. She originates from Myanmar, where she grows in warm, tropical conditions. Her colourful leaves make her a standout addition to a bright room, especially when she receives enough light to show off her metallic tones.

☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light helps bring out her vibrant colouring. Some gentle morning sunshine is fine, but avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.

💧 Watering
Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost begin to dry. Keep the compost lightly moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. Check more frequently during warm weather and reduce watering in winter.

🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
She prefers warmth, ideally around 18–27°C, and appreciates higher humidity. Protect her from cold draughts and temperatures below around 15°C.

🪴 Potting
Use a rich but well-draining houseplant compost in a pot with drainage holes.

✂️ Pruning
Pinch out the growing tips to encourage a bushier shape. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves as needed.

Good light and regular pinching help maintain a fuller plant with vivid foliage. She can become leggy in low light, and her leaves may droop if the compost dries out too much. Feed lightly during spring and summer.
