Commonly known as Tamarind, Tamarindus indica is a tropical tree with delicate, feathery, pinnate leaves that fold slightly at night. When grown in pots indoors, it forms a graceful, bonsai-like specimen with fine-textured foliage and a light, airy canopy. Native to tropical Africa but widely cultivated across Asia, it is best known for producing edible pods in mature outdoor trees, though fruiting is rare in indoor conditions.

☀️ - Prefers very bright light and benefits from several hours of direct sun daily. A south- or west-facing window is ideal. Insufficient light will cause weak, leggy growth.

💧 - Water when the top layer of soil feels dry. Keep the soil lightly moist during active growth but never waterlogged. Reduce watering in winter, allowing more drying between waterings. Avoid letting the plant sit in standing water.

🌡️ - Thrives in warm conditions between 20-30°C. Avoid temperatures below 15°C. Protect from cold draughts and sudden temperature drops. Prefers moderate humidity but adapts to normal indoor levels.

🪴 - Use a well-draining housepotting mix with added perlite. Repot in spring as needed, moving up one pot size. Tamarind develops a strong root system, so ensure the pot has good depth and drainage. Prune lightly to maintain shape, especially if grown as a bonsai-style plant.

🐾 - Toxic to pets.
