Xanthosoma lindellii ‘Mint’ is a striking tropical houseplant with large, arrow-shaped leaves in fresh shades of green and minty variegation. She has a real jungle-plant feel and, given warmth and good growing conditions, can produce impressively large foliage.
☀️ Light
Bright, indirect light is ideal. She can enjoy some gentle morning or evening sunshine, but avoid strong direct midday sun, which can scorch her leaves. Good light is particularly important for maintaining attractive variegation.
💧 Watering
Water when the top couple of centimetres of compost have dried slightly. Keep her reasonably evenly moist during the growing season, but never allow her to sit in water. Reduce watering during autumn and winter when growth slows.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
She loves warmth and humidity. Aim for around 18-28°C and higher humidity if possible. Keep her away from cold draughts, chilly windows and radiators. Stable conditions will help her produce healthy new leaves.
🪴 Potting
Use a chunky, free-draining aroid mix containing peat-free compost or coco coir, orchid bark and perlite. Good drainage is essential. As she matures, she may appreciate a sturdy support depending on her growth habit.
✂️ Pruning
Remove yellow or damaged leaves at the base using clean scissors. Older leaves will naturally yellow as the plant puts energy into new growth.
🌿 Growing Tips
Warmth, humidity and bright filtered light are the recipe for good growth. Avoid constantly moving her around, particularly while a new leaf is developing. Wipe the leaves occasionally and check for common pests such as thrips and spider mites.
🐾 Not Pet Friendly
Xanthosoma contains calcium oxalate crystals and is toxic if eaten, so keep her away from pets and children.
